For Alex the moment he saw a yacht sailing into Nantucket he knew he was destined for the sea, scroll on 45 years and it is still his passion, joy and life. Throughout these four decades he has worked, first as Crew and then as Captain, on vessels ranging from 52-75 metres.

His commands have taken him to the Caribbean, England, Holland, the Baltic Sea and St. Petersburg as well as throughout the Mediterranean Sea.

During these 45 years he has been involved in overseeing major projects and refits which then led to a degree in Marine Surveying.

His proudest achievement was being the Master of the 56 metre Feadship RIO RITA for 23 years, sailing extensively each year in Greek Waters.

As a member of the JMS Team Alex will be continuing his Maritime journey and passing on all his years of experience to Clients, Captains and Crew.

Since the completion of her degree, she has worked in various jurisdictions for a corporate group in Mauritius, she then spent 5 years working for a private real estate fund in Australia before moving back to France working in the event industry in Monaco. Fluent in English, French and Italian with a intermediate level in Russian, Rachel enjoys travelling, experiencing new adventures and snowboarding.

JMS aims to be the first choice service to super yacht owners through excellent customer service, innovation, quality and honesty. Rachel’s approach is based on her commitment to think outside the box whilst focusing on the needs and perceptions of international customers.

Born and bred in Anhui province, China, Sophie has visited and studied in more than 20 countries and currently holds both a BA English Literature degree from China and an MSC International Accounting Finance and Strategy degree from the UK.

With a background in International Project Management, she was responsible for EU-China Intergovernmental Business Relations initiatives and played a key role in facilitating the work of global educational teams and multi-national recruitment teams between China and the UK. Sophie is the powerhouse behind JMS client yacht accounting, bookkeeping and budget management.

She takes care of Yacht Bank Accounts, manages Crew credit cards, Invoice verifications and payments, currency transfers and all monthly, quarterly and annual reporting.

A real ‘people’ person with an acute eye for detail, Carla has over 20 years’ experience in luxury hospitality and yachting. From growing up on the island of Guernsey, UK and spending time on her family’s boat she moved to the UK where she trained and worked as a Beauty Therapist.

Carla then went on to work at Harvey Nichols’ flagship store in London and at Your Sanctuary 5* Day Spa in Sydney, Australia before spending 11 years with a London Yacht Brokerage firm. When she moved to Brighton and started working at an IT Recruitment company her talents were quickly spotted and she was duly head-hunted by JMS Crew.

A much-liked and energetic member of the team, Carla’s exceptional profiling skills together with her attention to detail and acute sense of organisation ensure Owners and Captains save time in interviewing only those candidates that fit.

Martina is the ultimate multi-tasking centre at JMS. Fluent in three languages and educated at an International School in the Netherlands, her unique skillset, character and experience has benefited a number of multi-national companies including British Telecom, HP and ING.

Today, it’s at JMS where Martina really gets to juggle the excellence, working on everything from translations, logistics, administration and planning for the considerable amount of travel required by JMS Yacht Managers and Directors.

After a few years cruising on my own yacht, I ended up getting more involved in the professional scene after I found my skills be useful for owners using their yachts for racing and cruising in warmer places.

From there on working with owners and their representatives from sail racing in the Caribbean to dinner cruises in New York harbour, with my keen interest in travel and different cultures also had a chance to help to plan and perform their excursions to numerous new and old yacht destinations world wide.

After receiving my Masters ticket at the beginning of 2000, I have been working as a Captain mostly on motor yachts from 45 to 70 m with extensive cruising in all the corners of the Mediterranean in pursuit of the perfect place to visit by boat.

Always looking out for new destinations and open to modern solutions on board to improve the experience for owners and work routines and safety for crew.

Now with my recent relocation to Mallorca I enjoy settling in to the local flavours and in search of new scenery on foot or biking with friends.

Lucia has worked most of her career in the yachting environment. As surveyor for RINA, Lloyds’ Register, Cayman Island and Isle of Man she dealt with all you can imagine in our business. From Plan Approval to new construction surveyor and existing ship surveyor.

To ensure her experience wasn’t solely yachts she has also worked for one year as super intendant for a bulker company in Italy. A lot of the world yachts are sailing around with her knowledge. From MY Serene to the new construction of SY Black Pearl, MY DAR and many more.

Fluent in English, French and Italian, Luca has a strong interest in sustainability and innovation. In the past, Luca was a Captain Engineer on MY Noga and MY Sabbia which included a wide range of responsibilities such as defining the right type of vessel and shipyard, supervising the construction including the commissioning and technical acceptance and in charge of the technical decisions.

Outside of work, Luca is a thrill seeker racing motorbikes on tracks!

Most recently, Tom was the Captain on MY North Star and has proven to be skilful, full of humour a nice person to work with.

With a knack for problem-solving and a deep-rooted love for vessel engineering and project management, Lachlan’s journey has been nothing short of impressive.

One of his proudest moments was achieving the role of Chief Engineer for a turbine-powered 50m Feadship at just 24 years old

After sixth form she left to start her yachting journey which began in Palma. After several satisfying years of working her way up to second stew, Hannah decided to make the transition to land life.

Having always been a massive people person, with a heavy work ethic, Hannah is keen to still be linked to yachting by placing crew but is happy she won’t have to take another sea sickness tablet!

Lisa graduated university with a Bachelor in Business and went on to work for NZ leading magazine distributor.  After a few years Lisa decided it was time to explore the world and went to enjoy the winter working in the Canadian Rocky Mountains as a lift attendant on a ski hill.

She then flew onto London where she worked as a marketing executive for a publishing company for 3 years, while travelling throughout Europe whenever she could get the chance.

Lisa’s love of travel then took her onto the superyachts where she had a successful career working onboard a range of different superyachts, private and charter. Lisa spent her last few years onboard working as a chief stewardess, a position that she loved, she has now made her transition to land and is excited to use her experience to continue working in the industry as a Recruitment Consultant.

I was probably one of the first woman to gain an unlimited DPO certificate. I have worked on different vessels: supply, survey, DSV, cable layers, salvage and flotels and for companies such as Stolt Offshore (now Subsea 7), Smit International and Prosafe.

In 2003 I came ashore and moved to The Netherlands. For the last 17 years I have worked in QSHE Dept for two Dutch Shipping companies, these being general cargo vessels. I was DPA, CSO and carried out the usual tasks related to this function: internal audits – vessels and office, ISM, ISPS, MLC , implementation of international and national regulations, accident investigation and more!

Born in Cambrils in Catalonia Miquel is currently living in the beautiful Tarragona area.

Miquel brings with him and incredible level of hands-on technical knowledge and a long list of academic qualifications; with two bachelor’s degrees: in Ship Systems & Propulsion, and in Nautical Science.  In addition, Miquel also has two master’s degrees in Marine Engineering and in Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering.

Born in Nottingham, England and raised in Cambridgeshire, it has been over 20 years since he called the UK home.

After concluding studies in Media, James found himself working on other shores in the USA and Norway in educational roles, before taking the leap into the seagoing side of the yachting industry in the early 2000’s.

A decision that carved out a happy pathway to captaincy having moved through all the ranks up to Chief Officer at the100m level and Captain in the 60M range. His last command being on a 55M charter vessel. He attained an MCA master 3000GT licence amongst other relative qualifications, yet it was the working knowledge and experience gained over the last 10 years especially, on extremely busy dual season charter vessels, that helped him hone his skills to build sound practical knowledge of all things expected of a busy ISM/ISPS/MLC compliant vessel.

Born in Hamilton, New Zealand, Nick lived mostly in Tauranga, an amazing beach area. An incredibly active and passionate person who started sailing at 17 and completed all yacht courses to the Master 3000. He is also a certified Diving Instructor.

Nick spent 1 year as a deckhand who then was promoted to his first mates job on a 135ft @lurssen, MY Blind Date and, thereafter, worked mostly on 160/170 ft but up to 240ft yachts.

Well travelled, Nick has cruised the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Bahamas, East Coast US, South Pacific, Central and South America; and now lives in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

During his spare time, Nick loves spending time with his children and loves to BBQ.

Following that, Ginaluca joined Lloyds Register for the next 5 years as a Marine Surveyor demonstrating his passion for the sea and the yachting world.

I’d love to do a couple more transits of the Gibraltar and Messina Straits for the navigational challenge.

Eric has a wide experience of the maritime industry built through Man of War, commercial ships (from cruise ships to tankers and research vessels), Tall Ships, and yachts for the past 17 years. His career has been rewarded recently by the French Government with the Maritime Merit Medal.

Instead of retiring quietly in a remote place, he has just subscribed for a new 45 year’s ticket to enjoy life at full speed and try to make the best of it! He will fly again above lands and oceans, sail with the sailing boat he built myself, explore the seabeds diving or surf along the coastlines, and then switch from one activity to the other riding a motorcycle.

Other past times include the gym, exercising and being outdoors. Being in a good routine and working out helps encourage a positive mentality which I can translate into other aspects of my day-to-day activities.”

With every opportunity I have had, whether it be abroad or on home soil, I have tried to get out on the sea and soak in the endless ocean and calmness of the waves. I am an avid traveller and recently was lucky enough to spend a week in Malta with roasting hot weather and beautiful seas, easily my favourite travel destination thus far.

I was previously working for a large international fashion retailer Boohoo, and enjoyed the experience thoroughly. It really helped to grow my passion for the industry and my own creativity with style.

I am excited to start this chapter of my career and am looking forward to learning and soaking up as much knowledge as possible

For the past 20 years I managed to expand my small company to new industrial niche markets as well as to turn the family business to a vertically integrated firm. Furthermore, I enjoyed a lot being responsible for the CRM implementation and advancement of plans and strategies, retaining existing customers and gaining new ones, and carrying out tasks related to project management and internal audits as a safety and health engineer.

However, accounting was always one of the critical fundamentals in business that I hadn’t ever the opportunity to deal with it in depth. So, here I am, feeling thrilled for this amazing opportunity given to me to contribute as much as I can to minor accounting administrative tasks initially and learning how to follow step by step the ‘JMS Accounts Team’ best practice and outstanding performance.

In 2009, Susan took 10 months off to participate in the ClippER 2009-2010 Round the World Yacht Race. “After just four weeks training on the water and one week of classroom-based navigation and meteorological training, I set sail in September 2009, on a 68-foot racing yacht with a crew of 18 strangers and one professional Skipper to circumnavigate the globe and fulfill a long held dream. After just over 10 months, more than 35,000 miles of racing, stopovers in 14 international ports, crossings of each of the world’s major oceans including three transatlantic races and experiencing the extremes of ocean racing, and living, I returned to the UK to live and work.”

In 2010 with her feet back on dry land, Susan joined the Trowers & Hamlins LLP – as the Public Sector Commercial Department Bids Manager, and in 2011 Susan joined a large Yacht Management company in France as their Contracts and Corporate projects Manager.

Now with a young daughter and a partner who is still active in yachting as Senior Crew, she has settled in the Channel Island of Guernsey where she is looking forward to continuing and progressing her shore side career in recruitment.

Sarah-Jane is known for her affable friendly nature, professional demeanour, and ability to communicate at all levels.

We are pleased to introduce you to our Dawn Farara-Line who has just joined JMS Careers in Palma as a Recruitment Consultant. A real people person with an acute eye for detail!

Born in Canada and raised in Antigua. Dawn crossed the Atlantic on a 50’ sailing boat at the age of 19 from Antigua to Palma. Her first position on board a yacht was as a watchkeeper.

Dawn lived and worked in London in her 20s. She then returned to Antigua to work on the private island called ‘Jumby Bay’ where she met her husband and moved thereafter to Italy where his boat was based.

Dawn enjoys spending time with her 3 year old daughter and husband outdoors and travelling; they love exploring new places. The family has also expanded with a sausage dog and two cats!

Currently based in Palma, Mallorca – A hard-working lady with great interpersonal skills and experience on board yachts. She will without a doubt be a great contribution to our expanding recruitment team and a strong asset for captains and owners to assist to propose crew compatible with the philosophy of the yacht.
