The heart of every yacht is the crew. But managing yachting crew is a labour intensive job and requires knowledge and skill. JMS helps with the recruitment plus, Crew Management & Payroll to ensure that the yacht is manned with a healthy, qualified, happy and motivated crew.

Crew Qualifications Vetting

All crew placed on board must have the right qualifications. An incredibly thorough and involved set of procedures are used to recruit and screen crew, saving time, heartache and money when it comes to the final placements. JMS ensures that all flag state manning levels are duly met and the relevant certificates are all in place. All Crew, regardless of rank, must hold a valid STCW stating that they have been trained in Personal Survival, Fire Fighting, First Aid & CPR and Personal Safety & Social Responsibility. In the case of an incident ever occurring onboard, these cover all the basic areas needed to ensure the health and safety of the vessel and all persons aboard. Crew must also hold an ENG1 certificate stating they are fit to be at sea.

MLC Compliance

All commercial yachts have to comply with MLC2006, while private yachts are highly recommended to comply with the code. JMS Ltd has experts in place to implement and maintain the compliance with the MLC code. JMS will help to achieve and maintain compliance. JMS can help set up the DMLC II, Crew Handbook etc.. Further JMS Ltd ensures that every crew member has a valid legal Seafarers Employment Agreement (SEA) that fully complies with the MLC2006.

Crew Confidentiality Agreement

When dealing with information about Owners and the guests on board, confidentiality is an extremely important part of the JMS ltd philosophy overall and not just when it comes to our Crew. We take great steps to ensure total discretion is upheld in all situations and it is a requirement, that ALL Crew and JMS Staff read and sign a Confidentiality Statement before commencing employment.

Maintaining Crew Documents

JMS Ltd keeps and manages an up-to-date record of all Crew employed on board your vessel and procedures are put in place which guarantee all certificates are renewed well before their due expiry date. Further, if the yacht is commercially registered, these records may be reviewed and checked as part of an Annual External Audit by the Flag State as part of your complete Crew Management & Payroll service.

Criminal Background Check*

This is an additional service that can be provided on request. We are using a third party service provider to carry out the background checks which are not included in the ongoing management fee. A number of important and confidential issues are involved in Criminal Background Checks. Ask a JMS Manager for more information.

Drug Screen/Prevention Programme*

JMS Ltd. operates a zero tolerance policy toward drugs abuse by crew. We highly recommend our Random Drug Testing service. The programme is designed to prevent drug-use by Crew members onboard and its implementation tends to reduce the risk of a health and safety incident occurring onboard. An independent and experienced third party contractor will be carrying out the tests. The costs of the third party will be passed on to the yacht and are not included in the monthly management fee.
