MEET THE JMS USA TEAM

Industry leading technical yacht managers

WHY JMS YACHTING USA

The American yachting market is booming, and with the majority of yachts being built in Europe, you need a team that you can rely on located on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean.

This is why we founded JMS YACHTING USA in August 2022 to cater to the demand with one of the strongest technical teams being master mariners, former captains and crew, surveyors and naval architects. As a result, our knowledge and resources are in house, we can provide the owner and crew with efficient and transparent updates regarding your Newbuild and Refit.

If you are based in the USA and your yacht is being built in Europe, or you need on the ground management support in the USA you can count on us to have a team present on a regular basis no matter where you yacht is based. Meanwhile, you will have direct contact with our JMS USA President Nicholas Gray and his team based in Fort Lauderdale.

Nick Grey – President and Fleet Manager

Born in Hamilton, New Zealand, Nick lived mostly in Tauranga, an amazing beach area. An incredibly active and passionate person who started sailing at 17 and completed all yacht courses to the Master 3000. He is also a certified Diving Instructor.

Nick spent 1 year as a deckhand who then was promoted to his first mates job on a 135ft @lurssen, MY Blind Date and, thereafter, worked mostly on 160/170 ft but up to 240ft yachts.

Well travelled, Nick has cruised the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Bahamas, East Coast US, South Pacific, Central and South America; and now lives in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

During his spare time, Nick loves spending time with his children and loves to BBQ.

Lachlan McIntosh – Yacht Manager

Lachlan has recently joined us as a Yacht Manager, bringing his incredible passion for mechanical engineering to support our growing fleet.

With a knack for problem-solving and a deep-rooted love for vessel engineering and project management, Lachlan’s journey has been nothing short of impressive.

One of his proudest moments was achieving the role of Chief Engineer for a turbine-powered 50m Feadship at just 24 years old.

When he’s not conquering the world of yachts, Lachlan is a competitive distance runner, proving that he’s not only passionate about engines but also about staying fit and pushing his limits.

Haley Delano – Operations Assistant

We are pleased to introduce you to Haley Delano who has joined the JMS Yachting USA team. She will be taking care of the operations supporting JMS USA President, Rick Thomas and USA Fleet Manager, Nicholas Gray in view of our growing USA fleet.

Born in Miami, Florida, Haley spent 10 years in the property management field and has been boating her entire life. She grew up acting as first mate on the fishing boats her family used to charter travelling throughout South Florida and the Caribbean.
Her mantra is to work hard to know what you don’t know, and always take the time to get in right in the beginning. A great fit and attitude to be part of the JMS USA team which opended in September 2022.

In her free time, she enjoys free diving, fishing and all other ocean related activities. She is also another motorbike fan, having a Harley Davidson cruising around Fort Lauderdale. Has that become a requirement to be part of the JMS team ?

DID YOU KNOW

If you are selling or buying a yacht which is based in Europe, we can take care of the pre-purchase survey to ensure that there are no surprises and that the yacht is being sold/acquired at the right value.

What does a pre-purchase survey involve?

  • Review of statutory and classification documentation on board
  • Inspection and testing of safety and pollution prevention systems and equipment
  • Visual inspection of external and internal areas, systems and equipment as far as practically possible without removing paneling and structure
  • Tank inspection (1 fuel, 1 fresh water, 1 black water) could be included if cleaned and safe to enter (if required)
  • Testing of equipment and systems, as far as practically possible both alongside and during sea trials
  • Review of planned maintenance system and maintenance history as found on board
  • Bottom inspection after cleaned and washed
  • Factual statement of the condition as found
  • On board documentation review
  • On-board visual inspection and testing as required on a sampling basis
  • Use of JMS YACHTING developed checklist
  • Communication with Captain, Chief Engineer and crew as considered necessary
  • Sea trial to be done in accordance with JMS sea trial program
  • Bottom survey
  • Issue of report

Lastly, if your yacht is based in Europe and in the USA depending on the season, you have a team on the ground and 24/7 DPAs who can assist with emergencies. Being an independent yacht management company, there is no conflict of interest. Our goal is to ensure that your yacht is maintained to the highest standard so that you can enjoy the experience of owning a yacht and maximize her value in the event of a resale and to take care of the safety of the crew.
